Here begins Pictures of you, an epic story of the life-cycle of a close circle of friends, the good times and the bad. Inspired by real people and real events, enough has been changed to call this a fiction. It is both comedy and tragedy and deals with very real, very hard issues among the inimitable rush of finding the best friends in your life, and then watching them all slip away.
looks really good--*fave* the title more or less caught my eye, being a fan of the song by the cure :p i'm really looking foward to this--your art is gorgeous!
Thanks! You might be able to guess, but I'm a Cure fan myself. This comic is heavily influenced by music, with numerous references to various musicians, several of the characters being musicians themselves and a majority of the chapter titles being lyric quotes.
yesss I love comics that are heavily influenced by music XD and there aren't alot out there (I've made an attempt at one or two ha) but yes the concept sounds awesome and I cant for more XD
The theme sounds really interesting, I'll be following this!
The cover looks great, your art is between the most original I've seen here in SJ. It made me think of similar photographs of my very own old friends and the good old days before each one took their own way in life and the "circle" dissolved.
I listened to the song recently (my girl friend gave it to me on a mix) as I was listening i realized what song it was and how well it fit. Ok so the point of this is to say you are amazing and i cannot imagine how you did this.
Yay for colorness! Though I admit I really liked the B&W style - sort of a film noir look to it that I responded to. Are thier plans to continue the comic in color, or will this just be a cover page thing?
Good job on coloring something that always seemed to be destined to remain in black and white.
I like how the colors are spread around so there doesn't seem to be one dominant color (though actually, on second thoughts there is - and it's flesh). The couch's green jars horrifyingly with the rest of the colors, but I assume that's done on purpose.
A few more thoughts : funny, I never figured Kara would ever wear purple but it does suit her very well. I'm less thrilled about Melanie's choice of light pink - I'd imagine her in something much brighter for our ray of sunshine in human form.
Interesting that Lauren happens to wear almost the same hue as Kara, only softer - a sign of her attraction to Peter? Then again, Sam is very close to shoulder with her - oh, the foreshadowing.
One thing that surprises me is the color of Michelle and Melanie's eyes - I've always seen them to be light or very light, and Michelle in particular looks vastly different with dark eyes.
Now, a criticism: I dislike the way Andy's hair looks. While the whole page looks very direct and natural, his hair looks like someone left a coffee stain on the photograph.
Last, I love Christo and Mulligan's renditions. Most of the characters are as lovable as ever, but Mulligan's smile is uncharacteristically winning (beating even Melanie for warmth) and Christo, while much quieter than EVER, looks perfect. (Except of course one should never wear shoes on a couch - see how Lauren only wears socks? And see how dreadful the couch looks after weeks over weeks of such treatment?)
