I don't generally give my pages titles, but if I did, this one would be called Suddenly Sodomy. Believe it or not, I spent a fair amount of time figuring out which of them was the bottom.
Now, on a considerably less gay note...
There are a handful of people I've met through the webcomic series of tubes (I assume they're people and not sentient programs designed to control my space madness) with whom I hope one day to tip a pint. Chris Spain is surely one of them. Chris is the artist of As You're Up, a comic I've been enjoying for years now. It isn't the most regularly updated, but whenever a new comic goes up I don't waste much time checking it out. Go see it at http://ayu.thewebcomic.com/
EDIT: I've deleted one comment already. Please don't make me delete more. Think before you post, homophobic or derogatory comments will be removed.
Poor Patrick...I know that's not what you expected to hear but, Poor Patrick. He is one of those people that "have" to be right and his boyfriend is using that to control him. Isolating him from his friends, feeding him what he wants to hear...then following that up with pleasure. That's an intoxicating mix... I can't wait to see what you have planned for these two.
Major Kudos on the page Mr. Twist!! Each panel is nice progression and the last two really speaks volumes on the situation.
I am so glad you answered my question f who was on the bottom because in my mind (because I couldn't decide either) I just decided they switched out...lol
Heh, I assumed they switched. The way Patrick's moods go when he's feeling uncertain, worried or vulnerable, he's probably up for being taken, but I can definitely see times when he'd prefer to give it a go the other way.
Alexis is probably able to control the situation either way.
LOL at the "No. We should not study. We should be sexing." sounds suspiciously like my end-of-second-year exams...
I might be forgetting older comics (in which case I should reread them), but I'm not sure I've seen Patrick smile before when it couldn't be described as a smirk. I have to admit, it was quite strange to see.
I don't say this often enough, but I am so drawn in by the characters, the story, the artwork and just how real it all seems. I can't get enough of it.
Makes perfect sense to me that Patrick would be catching... considering he seems to be completely submitting to his douchey boyfriend's will in every other way lately (the atrocious haircut, the continual alienation from his friends, etc.)
Patrick is more alike to his sister than he even realizes. They are both in abusive relationships because one of the key parts of that is being separated from your friends or other connections out the world of your partner. The last panel is very ominous and I'm looking forward to seeing how Patrick fares with being alone.
Hate to fan out, but...
We were given an indication that Patrick would bottom in his past relationships WAAAY early on, during "the talk" with Peter. Peter asked him "does it hurt?" and Patrick responded, "A little, but in a good way." If I've got that dialogue wrong, please forgive. Still, that did kind of foreshadow this, or at least show some breadth to Patrick's sexual experiences and appetites. The which, I still think he switches it up, as many of you have said.
Cals, I'm not sure who'd be the bottom (or if there would be a bottom) when it comes to Wiley and Evan. Heck, I'm not even sure if they know. I get the feeling that Wiley, at least, is a virgin--and there's really only one way you figure these things out.
A lot of commentors seem to be assuming there's a strict "top" and "bottom" in most gay relationships. And most of the time, that isn't true. Even in relationships where one person USUALLY tops and the other bottoms, there's often some switching around. I assumed such was the case with Patrick, and still do.
However, since we only see the one sexual encounter between these two (so far), it's natural that Mr Twist would need to work out who would "bottom".
However, it IS true that a person- regardless of gender- is more likely to be in a submissive role during sex if they are also submissive within the relationship. And so far- as some people have also said- Patrick does seem to be extremely submissive in regards to Alex's wishes.
Not that I'm asking for more sex in this comic, or more naked male bodies - because I'm not, I'm here for the story - but I do find it interesting that you felt the need to show Alex and Patrick having sex in silhouette when that's not what you did for (most memorably) Peter and Kara. I find it interesting that you did that. I don't really midn, like I say, I'm here because I enjoy the stories and the characterisation, but I did wonder why you seemed to feel you had to silhouette this scene.
I don't know.
Please disregard this comment if it's obvious to the reader that I am in fact quite drunk right now.
There was a debate as to how to portray this scene, but it was short-lived. You're incorrect about Peter and Kara, I have yet to depict actual sex acts in anything but suggestion. To date, Peter and Kara have never been shown having sex, just getting undressed and having a bath. Christo and Michelle, the first sex in the book, were shown in silhouette as well, and Peter and Sandy Green were shown only in cut shots. Everything else has only been nudity.
I didn't feel like there was anything to be added to the story by showing graphic nudity or sex in this scene, and I think the silhouette says everything it needs to say. The fact that there's gay sex on this page has hijacked a lot of the dialogue, though thankfully not all. Had I opted for something more explicit, I think it would have overwhelmed the story. Besides, I don't feel the need to go one for one on the gay sex to straight sex counter to meet some perceived idea of social justice.
A careful reader would also notice that, with one very small exception, all of the scenes with graphic nudity share something very specific, being a common observer.
