DUN DUN DUUUUUN !
Love your work on facial expressions here, Mr. Twist ! The father's looks when he asks Patrick to go th the kitchen are excellent ! You could add : "while I walk your sister to the sacrifice" in the dialogue...
Well, Peter warned him never to go near her again. Has the guy forgotten the fact that peter still goes to the same school as him and thus can find him. Not to mention that fact that Patrick is right there. I'm surprised he even showed up.
Also, of course, fail to the parents. Too bad no one took pictures of her to show them what he did.
The question is, why is it soooo important to their dad (mum?) that they stay together?
Uh, guys, that's going to be a reaaally bad chrismas eve...
One of those situation where if you don't jump to the throat of the guy you look around for the nearest exit...
Is their father dumb?
Anyway, mr. Twist you are a genius! Everybody is posting comments about the characters as if they are acting out of their own will!
Skye - Someone DID take a picture of her when she was like that. It's in the prologue, the one of her curled up on that green couch with her (blonde) hair in a ponytail. Still, two questions stand; 1. Does that image show enough of their daughter broken? 2. Will the parents see that?
I hope that Melanie actually turns around and walks out of the house without a word. This was completely disrespectful on the part of her parents. And I hope patrick lays into them for it, and realizes that he should respect her choices too.
Duck and Cover!
[cue ominous music]
... this is gonna be one crappy Christmas...
Dad, you failed BIG TIME! You are NOT gonna be able to recover the love of your daughter after this one...
... BTW, would ya look at the coy little smirk on Devon's face?!?!
The Evil That Men Do
This isn't right. This is wrong. THIS IS BLOODY UNBELIVEABLE!! It's hard to find the words to describe exactly what I feel right now. Fictional characters or not, this actually makes me genuinely angry. Awesome storytelling on Twist's part.
Patrick can not leave Mel alone with that creature, that fucking animal. Some way or the other she'll have to make a sound that will get him out of the kitchen and into the living room.
As for the parents, great job. They've just been nominated for the Useless Ficitonal Parents award...
There it is...
On the one hand, this is an incredibly awkward and potentially damaging situation for the siblings, but on the other, perhaps we'll finally get to see them actually work together toward a common goal, which is to expose Devon for the monster he is and stand up to their folks (OK, mostly their dad) on who they are as individuals.
I don't think Devon will out Patrick, though. He already got his foot in the door for a shot at getting Mel back, so I believe he won't play that wild card unless he senses he's got no chance, like if/when it comes up that Mel is with Andy.
Worst case scenario, IMO: Patrick is outed and cut off, Mel is berated for her involvement with Andy (with dad saying she never really gave Devon a chance to explain himself, yaddi yaddi yadda) and Devon gets to walk away unscathed, having damaged Patrick and Mel's self-respect.
Best case scenario: Patrick and Mel join forces to verbally strip down Devon with concrete proof of his actions; dad comes to his defense only to reveal his own similar pattern with mom (admit it, that look she gave on panel 4 is clearly the look of a woman who was told what was going to happen and to shut her mouth about it). Patrick outs himself, declares financial independence, and walks out with his sister, both with heads held high.
Knowing the genius of Mr. Twist, though, I'm sure the denouement will be somewhere in-between. :)

(And now I have start again finding slurs for Arsehole McShitnose..a dictionary, anyone?)
Yeah, so I'm kind of back. Very sorry for leaving( and that in the middle of conversation-my apologies, Rori and Gibson). Life got pretty chaotic during the last year, what with moving and having a computer so badly infected that he was nearly unusable for the longest time. Not to mention my mail account got hacked and used for spam delivery, during a time when I was looking for a job and sending online applications, no less.
I still managed to follow Pictures, though, and it is still awesome. Just wasn't able to contribute :-(
Worst Christmas Ever
I pretty much wanted Devon to get his ass handed to him since day one, and was glad to see Peter give him what he deserved... even if it did mean Mel getting beat before it happened.
I thought she'd told her parents what happened, when she insisted on staying at Bishop St? Either way, I don't see this ending on a good note at all...
-And of course, now I have to wait until FRIDAY to find out what happens next! Makes me wish I wasn't caught up and still reading back-posted comics. :)
Follow up: I was wondering why Mel's parents didnt bring up the whole situation. I expected questioning to be a lot more abrupt, or for there to be at least a mention of it when she arrived. Now we know why, her parents mentality was already "Problem solved!" -.- Cant wait for the dating Andy reveal lol.
Man, fuck that. Any self-respecting person would never spend a night under the same roof as that thing, and as much as I'd love to see Mel turn tail and walk out of their, the knowledge that this whole comic is about relationships falling apart reassures me that this will only serve as part of the final chapter between Mel and Patrick, both kids and their parents, and most of all that simpering shit-eater from panel six.
I was away all day, computer less and 1st thing I did when got home (internet related) was to read POY... And GASP!!!! Even tho i thought they would do that.. i was hoping they didnt...
But in all seriousness, when the shit originally hit the fan last year, during the aftermath we saw this coming. When she was talking to her father and he wanted to "Fix it," he was not listening to her say it could not be fixed.
To see him actually invite that monster to dinner, AFTER being told what he did, makes him JUST as guilty as Devin because he is an enabler.
Plain and Simple.
"Hey, honey, you know what would make the holidays really special? If we invited the boy who beat our daughter to Christmas dinner. He seemed so nice."
"How about after we do that we leave her in a room alone with him for a few hours and let those two crazy kids work it out. They would just give us SUCH cute grandkids."
1. Patrick is right...dogs SHOULD be bigger than a loaf of bread.
2. Melanie seems to be standing up for herself pretty well lately...I guess we'll see if that strength will hold up.
3. I think Patrick will say many more "fucks" and many fewer "sirs" in the next few pages.
4. Mr. Twist is a genius.
I made an account just to comment on this page of the comic... the last frame made my jaw drop and a cold chill go down my spine. I felt a pang of sadness for Melanie. I don't think I'm going to like how this is going to turn out...
