I don't think their dad quite realizes the extent of the physical and emotional trauma that Devon put Melanie through. I'm sure that if he did, he'd outrun Jesse Owens himself just to get his hand on the man who hurt his little girl.
Not that it matters, but that's my thoughts, anyway.
And so it is christmas...
Okay, so someone is finally able to see that the first one misbehaving here is Daddy...
Even if he doens't realize what went on between Devon and Mel, where does he get off making it his business ? On christmas eve, no less ? Parents are supposed to be on their children's side. Who else is gonna be ?
i'm sure he (father) had nothing but good - albeit misplaced - intentions.
he believed that devon was good for his daughter, and could offer her the life that HE wanted his daughter to have. he probably also believed that it was a trivial argument or two that split them apart, and that the 'holiday spirit' (during a time of forgiveness) might help bring them back together. he is oblivious to the truth, yes, and stupid to assume...
Two years of build up, one page, half a minute of reading time.
My veins are boiling, your work has such instant emotional effect, I was just waking up when I started reading, ten seconds later my blood is coarsing stronger than ever, and adrenaline pumping. I am impressed, sir, impressed.
It's not a real Christmas 'till someone gets punched!
GO PATRICK GO.
Edit: On a serious note, I like how this reminds us that Patrick really does care about Mel.
Yeah, he's an idiot, but you run into a lot of those in real life.
He really does care for his sister though, and is just afraid she'll get hurt.
I think that dad is just as controlling as Devon is, which is probably why Melanie fell for him in the first place. Dad's controlling is more psychological than physical, which is probably also why Patrick can't tell him that he's gay. So it really makes sense that he brought Devon to the house. He 'approves' of Devon, so he's the only one he wants to see Melanie with.
Bravo, Patrick. Bravo. Despite how douchey he's been recently, I knew he had some redeeming qualities. Once again, I am shaking with pure emotion and can't wait to see the next update. So on that note, Bravo, Gibson. Bravo.
I foresee Patric being screwed over by his dad for this stunt he's about to pull... At least it's a good way to get rid of the boyfriend... But like it was mentioned before, this can't end well for anyone...
Finally, Patrick is stepping up. Whooo, Patrick! Go, Patrick. And, yes, based on how Mel is currently behaving and based on her past choices, I do believe that dad is/was controlling and abusive in some way.
Why no one will give me a tardis
Sometimes I think that if I ever had time travel ability, I'd end up using it just to see the next update of this webcomic. And the one after that. And the one after that. And...oh, damn, it's 2013, I better go back now. :D
I can't wait
Simple as that I can't wait, why do you do this to us!! I need to know what happens next!
Also: I have a feeling Devon will let something slip about Patrick. no no this will not end well for anyone
Can't do it
I almost can't read this anymore. It is stressing me out! If someone doesen't punch Devon soon and make daddy dearest realise what a monster he really is, i'm gonna scream.
Why isn't he seeing the bigger picture? Is he really so blind? Will the two *really* cover up for Devon (and Peter) anymore when they see the ramifications?
To be honest, from the moment Daddy there entered this comic I've thought his relationship with Mel's mother was probably similar to Devon's with Mel. Abuse? Maybe, maybe not. But definitely the same concepts behind the controlling and manipulating attitude. I mean look how Daddy treats Patrick.
Daddy probably looked at Devon and saw a younger version of himself. Who better for his daughter? But wait. Daughter leaves this man who embodies the same/similar outlooks as himself? The man Daddy had agreed with and assigned to be his daughter's devotion? Now, now, Daddy can't have that.
Totally looking forward to Patrick putting Daddy in his place and making him realise that he's trying to push is baby girl into a abusive relationship. Hoping Patrick will make a revelation of his own as well, and make a choice of the better between two (in his mind) evils.
