after reading this page, I had to go back to the beginning of the chapter just so that I could see the transition in the father from anticipatory to confused and finishing in rage in this page. SO GOOD!!!!!!
That and Devon's face of confusion as he is being thrown out of the house. Excellently done Mr. Twist!!
Such a fun page
Fantastic work, Mr. Twist. The rage on this page was a beautiful sight to see before nodding off. Great to see that the old man has his priorities straight, though I don't know that I look forward to seeing his reaction to the news about Patrick. (Also, is it just me, or did it seem like the mustache had a life of its own here?)
I'm a new reader, but I must say that I absolutely love your artwork. The emotions you manage to convey with facial expressions are awesome! That being said... I really, really hope that Dad's non-douchbaggery will extend into the next few panels when he inevitably confronts what Devon said before he was thrown out of the house. <wonders if there's any possibility of a bonus, extra, super special update>
I'm with HolyHandGrenade on this one. We can all agree that Devon deserved an ass-kicking, and that the Dad's testicles *seem* to have dropped at just the right moment, but I'm afraid he'll bugger those good feelings up by turning on Patrick now.
its nice to see that the dad isn't as big an asshole as i thought he was but it still doesn't look to good for patrick. Patrick was one of my favorites in the beginning of the series but he has slowly grown into a nosey douche. it'll be interesting to see 2 hard headed assholes go at it in the next few pages. i think the hitting isn't over either....
I am very satisfied with Papa Bear's reaction here! Though I'm truly hoping his anger does not now turn on Patrick, and honestly...I'm not sure if I think it will. His anger towards Devon did not involve a single mention of him 'outing' his son....though, he would not really beat Devon down over that.
In short, I'm conflicted D;
This could go one of three ways. His father could pull the 'I knew already and I'm ok with it' route. He could kick Patrick out, and make him have to be financially stable--which is horrible, no denying it, but as some have said..it could possibly do Patrick some good to have to work on his own, and it could get rid of his mooch boyfriend.
The last option, personally, I think it the worst--his dad could ignore it. Completely and utterly ignore it, and deny it. Not accept it, and refuse to discuss or talk about it. In essence, shove Patrick back into the closet.
How refreshing, that was pretty awesome. I hope however that the rage manages to subside in the next 5 seconds so he can have a mature and rational discussion with Patrick over this recent news....doubtful? lol. Who knows maybe he will choose ignorance. Be all "I cant believe he would come in here and say such things after being such an ass." Patrick may get off clean, or he might take the opportunity to come out. Can't wait to see the next page.
Welp, dad sure went up a notch in pretty much all of our books, but methinks he's still got some rage fuel left just for Patrick. The key thing about this guy is that he hates being lied to above all else. Sure, Patrick's gayness shouldn't be cause for dad's wrath, but had his son simply come out of the closet and said "Screw you, pops, I love the cock and I don't care what you think about it" a long time ago, then I believe he would have much more respect for him. As it stands, dad was lied to about his little girl (althought Melanie could have come out and said "the bastard beat me senseless" instead of "daddy please... he hurt me", during that phone call after the fact - a lot of grief happening right now could've been avoided), and about his son's use of his money. He is NOT a happy camper.
As others have said, I actually hope that he kicks Patrick to the curb and cuts him off. Patrick needs to drop the joy-boy lifestyle and learn some responsibility already. Hopefully, that'll entail dropping Alex, too.
Well... I dunno. The last christmas they had, his dad gave him alot of flack for being a leech and not having a job. So to find he has a boyfriend, does drugs and is now double the leech on his dad's money is a punch to his mustache'd face 8(.
What a great page, made me gasp with joy. Makes it tempting to just stop reading now and quit while the going's good, but I know that that would be incredibly foolish of me. Whooo, and the adrenaline rush gradually slows!
I'm glad Mr. Hogan didn't let anything sidetrack him from the real issue at hand: throwing that nozzle Devon out. -I also loved that he physically tossed Devon out. Too bad Devon didn't "trip" and hit his face on the front step on his way out. :)
Although now that Devon's gone, there's still the issue of Patrick being outed. Unfortunately, this night is far from over for the Hogans.
The throw heard 'round the world
This was probably the most satisfying thing to read today. Good to know that Melanie's dad wasn't aware of what went on at school instead of just not caring. Dad SMASH!
At the same time, I wonder how their dad will react when he finds out Devon wasn't just blowing smoke about Patrick. Something tells me that the drama is not over yet. Can't wait for Friday!
Awesome to see Devon get a taste of what he so richly deserves. I've been reading the comments and honestly, while I really hope dad doesn't turn around and slam into Patrick, I don't think he should just be 'okay' with it either.
Not so much from the perspective of 'ew gay', but Patrick is slowly screwing up his life and this business with his current douche boyfriend shows signs that the 'slowly' part is picking up speed.
I'd like to see dad more or less tell him 'you lied to me and that's not okay, I don't care who you date but you can't move people in on my dime - if you want to date him, he's gonna need to pay rent and by he way, you need to get a part-time job and stop slacking off'.
My fear is that Patrick is so deep into believing his own brain that he'll commit virtual suicide by telling dad off at that point. He seems very keen on shooting himself in the foot.
...is that daddy is so upset over Melanie, and over the fact that Devon would stoop to accuse her of lying, that he will also write off the "your son is a pothead queer" thing as just one more of Devon's underhanded tactics.
Don't know if it'll work out like that since Daddy dear was not all that happy with Patrick to begin with -- but on the other hand, he may have been impressed by seeing Patrick stand up for his sister and stand up to his father on behalf of his sister.
I discovered this comic last week while reading one of my other comics. It was an ad of some sort that looked intriguing. Since then, I've been reading the entire story from page one until now. I have to say, you sucked me in and now I can't escape.
But I also need to say that now I'm pissed that I've run out of archives to read and I have to wait for updates.
Maybe its just me but I would have added a "You shitbag" or something after "You hear me", just because it gives it a satisfying and definitive end feeling. LOL.
Had us on our toes again Gibson. Go you!
