This kind of thing is always easier when you're both screaming at each other.

Take your mind off it by voting for us on Top Webcomics to see the new alt dialogue. What's Michelle really saying? http://www.topwebcomics.com/vote/8932/default.aspx

awesome alt dialog - and awesome non-alt dialog as well!

MacSimon, October 5th, 2011, 12:13 am

I loved that alt text.

Also, there's something about the panels 5 and 7 that i really like, they look really good.

shalahoyden, October 5th, 2011, 12:14 am

I can't say I didn't see this coming, but it's still upsetting. Alternate dialog definitly helped reverse that though.

Very nicely done page. I agree with MacSimon - panels 5 and 7 are really awesome.

Love the alt. dialog too haha <3

Oh wow.... This is a sad one.

Michelle, where to now?

DarQuing (Guest), October 5th, 2011, 12:18 am

Maybe it is easier when you're yelling at each other, but this feels more honest. It doesn't feel like the anger talking.

Loved the alt text, too. :)

Keep it up :D
Picture of You just keeps getting better and better! Whenever I open my RSS reader I always find that the first thing I check for are PoY updates :D You're a champion Mr Gibson Twist!

And... I think this alt dialog may be the best I've seen yet ^^

This... might.... maybe...

I gotta find out what Christo has to say! I'm the edge of my seat, man!

yayness (Guest), October 5th, 2011, 1:58 am

ergghhhh ... thankfully the only time I had to do anything like this was just after the question "do you want to go out with me?" which wasn't as bad but he still looked miserable for months :(

Friend zone, eh?

Alt-dialogue made me chuckle a bit.

kmab10 (Guest), October 5th, 2011, 7:51 am

this is brutal...honest but brutal. how do you tell someone you've lied to them for so long. thats just not cool. i get what she's saying but i've been on the other side and it just comes of as a big lie and a cop out to make her feel better about herself and about how she handled it.

darkamnios, October 5th, 2011, 8:13 am

Im glad we can see Michelle in an open way with Christo. Brutal or not they needed this.. -I still find it somewhat amusing when I encounter myself writing what I feel about fictional characters hehe, but I guess it speaks volume about the artist that can engage you in such way :)- And Priceless alt. dialog! @kmab10
Speaking as someone who's been on Christo's side of that conversation, I can tell you that it's most definitely not a cop out. Some people just never got to have a "normal" relationship, and when they actually find one, their old habits kick in. When they find that this negative cycle they were stuck in is about to be broken by a decent person who actually cares about them, it feels "wrong". It scares them, and makes them feel shitty that they can't return that kindness.

Bottom line, no one ever gets to the true heart of them, as they've built this wall that has protected it for so long. Being honest about this is the first time we've seen Michelle soft, chewy centre, and Christo's reaction to this will be most telling. Does Michelle truly wish to end this? Will Christo pull of the ol' "Well, bye" card? If Christo still shows himself as supportive after this, will it finally get through to Michelle, or has that ship sailed?

To paraphrase Firefly's Malcolm Reynolds: I've seen Michelle without her clothes on, but I never thought I'd see her naked.

This is when Christo becomes a serial killer. *fist pump*

Athena (Guest), October 5th, 2011, 9:36 am

Is it sad that I read the alt text in the song tune?

Vicki (Guest), October 5th, 2011, 9:58 am

Either way
This is Michelle trying to be open. Whether she knows the truth about herself is another thing. Painful for her and for Christo, I'm sure. It's got to hit him like a kick in the kidneys. But it could go either way at this point. Christo could get pissed and this could be a bad break-up. Or he could say, well, let's keep on being friends for a bit and see what happens. Because, if he does that, Michelle might get past her deep fear and distrust and find a little love in there, too.

leonardhbrown, October 5th, 2011, 11:36 am

While I'm sad to see this chapter in their lives close, in the long run she's doing the right thing. She's not chaining him down to a relationship that's not going to go anywhere.

I know he looks stricken right now, but Christo will know if she's blowing smoke, and he'll call her on it. I feel for Christo, but this is better than dragging it out.

I, for one, appreciate her honesty, although, I'm not entirely sure that's what this is. I think that she just realized how little she knows about him, and it frightened her.

Remnants of Nana, October 5th, 2011, 11:39 am

Oh Michelle! This is so sad, but beautifully done. But where's mention of Christo's mother??? (I guess this is her doing things the nice way, not bringing that up.) I feel so bad though, knowing she wasn't in love. It's so heartwrenching. Well fuck. Good thing that alternate dialog was there, or I'd be stuck in a depression over this (but now, all I can think about is cats.)

Xasswuwe (Guest), October 5th, 2011, 7:16 pm

I'm Not Convinced
I'm just not. The way she reacts when she finds out he's hiding something from her, and the way she pushes him away, I think it's more likely that she's too afraid to get close to him to be honest, but wants him to feel like she did open up to him, so she's telling these half-truths. It seems more like she's upset that he's keeping his own secrets and holding back, but feels she doesn't deserve to ask what's up (since she holds back, too).

But I completely am open to the fact that this is wishful thinking and there is a chance that she could be being honest right now.

VenNumberTen, October 6th, 2011, 5:23 pm

I'm so sad to see what was once my favorite POY couple being divided like this, but at the same time, I think that this may be one of those breakups that is simply for the best.

Stay strong, Christo!
