this is brutal...honest but brutal. how do you tell someone you've lied to them for so long. thats just not cool. i get what she's saying but i've been on the other side and it just comes of as a big lie and a cop out to make her feel better about herself and about how she handled it.
Im glad we can see Michelle in an open way with Christo. Brutal or not they needed this.. -I still find it somewhat amusing when I encounter myself writing what I feel about fictional characters hehe, but I guess it speaks volume about the artist that can engage you in such way :)- And Priceless alt. dialog! (http://youtu.be/mTTwcCVajAc)
Speaking as someone who's been on Christo's side of that conversation, I can tell you that it's most definitely not a cop out. Some people just never got to have a "normal" relationship, and when they actually find one, their old habits kick in. When they find that this negative cycle they were stuck in is about to be broken by a decent person who actually cares about them, it feels "wrong". It scares them, and makes them feel shitty that they can't return that kindness.
Bottom line, no one ever gets to the true heart of them, as they've built this wall that has protected it for so long. Being honest about this is the first time we've seen Michelle soft, chewy centre, and Christo's reaction to this will be most telling. Does Michelle truly wish to end this? Will Christo pull of the ol' "Well, bye" card? If Christo still shows himself as supportive after this, will it finally get through to Michelle, or has that ship sailed?
To paraphrase Firefly's Malcolm Reynolds: I've seen Michelle without her clothes on, but I never thought I'd see her naked.
This is Michelle trying to be open. Whether she knows the truth about herself is another thing. Painful for her and for Christo, I'm sure. It's got to hit him like a kick in the kidneys. But it could go either way at this point. Christo could get pissed and this could be a bad break-up. Or he could say, well, let's keep on being friends for a bit and see what happens. Because, if he does that, Michelle might get past her deep fear and distrust and find a little love in there, too.
Oh Michelle! This is so sad, but beautifully done. But where's mention of Christo's mother??? (I guess this is her doing things the nice way, not bringing that up.) I feel so bad though, knowing she wasn't in love. It's so heartwrenching. Well fuck. Good thing that alternate dialog was there, or I'd be stuck in a depression over this (but now, all I can think about is cats.)
I'm Not Convinced
I'm just not. The way she reacts when she finds out he's hiding something from her, and the way she pushes him away, I think it's more likely that she's too afraid to get close to him to be honest, but wants him to feel like she did open up to him, so she's telling these half-truths. It seems more like she's upset that he's keeping his own secrets and holding back, but feels she doesn't deserve to ask what's up (since she holds back, too).
But I completely am open to the fact that this is wishful thinking and there is a chance that she could be being honest right now.
