Cameos this page: Ami M, Kai P, Malin A, with Trevor B and James W still floating around in the background there. I'm not entirely sure, but I think at least two of those "fly honeys" are underage, so Christo is dodging a bullet here. Also, whoever bought them those drinks has some explaining to do.
Michelle Fucked Christo Over?
Why, by getting out of a dead-ended excuse of a relationship? Don't get me wrong, I wanted them to work it out, but after they broke up I realized what a waste of time they were.
Christo wasn't exactly a saint with her, either. His "I didn't tell you about my family because I just liked being around you" line would have worked a lot better if a bunch of his buddies weren't more in the know than her. If the best friend, and the best friend's good friends, and the best friend's good friend's girlfriend all know that Christo's mommy is dead, then that might be a sign that it's open enough information for the longtime girlfriend to know, too.
Even if she did fuck them over, they have only a jillion mutual friends, and their breakup was about the only thing not hostile about their relationship. Christo and Michelle both have obligations to put their big kid pants on and not hurt the other's feelings, unless they want to drag everyone they know on a forced field trip to Awkward City.
@ACiDNiNE: Woah, now. While I agree that since Michelle dumped him, he has a right to not think of her before he hits on other women, Michelle was not a bitch for being honest with him and breaking up. It's hard to end a relationship when you care about someone, but don't actually love them. Just because she found the nerve to do it, doesn't make her a bitch.
@Uncle Nutsy: I guess something could be said of the fact that while Lauren wasn't putting out any "come hit on me, I'll respond" vibes, Christo's flat out saying he'll try and get some trim. Intentions are clearer on his end, but we basically didn't get too far on Rick's spiel.
OTOH, I noticed how Rick just decided to bail after the boyfriend was mentioned, so either he saw he had no chance, or he just considered Christo to be an overprotective asshole and sought entertainment elsewhere.
@Xasswuwe: My gut reaction was to agree with acidnine's comment, but what you said is another side to it that I didn't consider. Instinctively, yeah, I can see how it could be an issue if he's hitting on people while she's there. Even with that said though, it's not like they broke up 5 minutes ago, and on top of that, she was the one that dumped him because she cared about but didn't love him. I don't really see how it's fair that he can't do what he wants. Maybe it's that in my head, she settled it for herself when she decided to leave him, so I'm thinking if he's ready to keep moving, what should stop him?
Lauren is talking to a person who just talked to her. Christo gets overprotective like a complete meddling asshole, drives the other guy away.
After this, Lauren, as a friend, politely, not being overbearing nor rude nor disrespectful nor controlling, asks him if he maybe perhaps have the decency to try not to hurt Michelle if she comes to the party. Michelle, who as Xasswuwe has explained above, is not more to blame than him for their disastrous relationship.
But Lauren is being a hypocrite, and Christo is totally in line. Right.
If the random guy was a woman, would we be all dissing Lauren for being a slut who flirts with lesbians, leading them on? No. I didn't think so.
Eye colour is the hardest thing to see in most of the pictures that I've received, in most pictures in general, really. A lot of the time, I make my best guess and figure I'd get it wrong now and then. And so it is fixed! Cheers, thanks.
@Guest: Of course he did her a favor, right? Because girls are weak and can't take care of their own business, and men know what's best for them. We all know the only reason a guy would talk to a woman is because he'd want to bang her.
@Guest Nobody said she was weak and that's the only reason anyone would talk to her.
Sometimes the focus of attention, regardless of gender, is the last one to realize what KIND of attention they're getting. I'm a friendly kind of guy. I've had female friends warn me before that a particular female had her sights set on me when I just thought she was making conversation. Because girls know how THEY talk and behave with guys they're interested in, and notice when another girl is doing it, sometimes before the guy does. Guys sometimes notice how other guys are talking and behaving before the girl does.
When you're the focus of attention pleasantly delivered, any of us is naturally disposed to want to enjoy it and not to be distracting our enjoyment by focusing our attention on analyzing what the other person's endgame is. It doesn't have anything to do with being weak or unintelligent.
Whether Christo had the right to step in is a separate question, of course, that has more to do with their specific relationship dynamics than generic guy-girl stuff.
Ya know, all Christo saw was the guy telling Lauren his name. For all he knew, the guy already knows Lauren has a BF. Christo is straight up being a dick.
But yeah, Lauren should have told the guy right away about her BF, as soon as he said anything about the band, totally before he even had a chance to tell her his name. To save time maybe girls should wear a badge on their sleeve if they have a BF, because no guy should have to waste time getting to know a girl he can't sleep with.
With Michelle and Christo, sure he has a right to hit on girls while she's around, but Lauren's asking him not to do it in front of her out of consideration. Maybe you've heard of it, it's where people take a moment to think about people other than themselves? Yeah, I know, pretty unreasonable.
@Guest: It has nothing to do with women being weak.
If Rick was interested in just making small talk he would have stuck around after Christo gave him the lay of the land the fact that he didn't just shows what Rick was interested in.
As a guy that's usually been in Ricks position I am more likely to thank Christo. Saves me time and effort.
@Guest: I don't know many people who would stick around after someone was a dick like that. I know I wouldn't. And make no mistake, Christo is indeed being a total dick here. Whether anyone wants to think his intentions were noble or his actions called for, no one should think behaviour like that isn't dickish. I mean, really.
A sad day...
My boyfriend has been an avid reader of Pictures of You for several years. I remember looking over his shoulder one day and seeing a panel about this guys freaking out over some stripper that had a tattoo on her shoulder. I didn't get it at the time, and after nearly two years of him insisting I read the comic, I understand now what was going on. I have reached the point where I now must wait for each update and I must say I anxiously await them. The characters created here are ones that you can fall in love with regardless of what is going on within their lives. I just wanted to take a moment and say think you to you, Gibson, for taking your time and creating this comic for I surely enjoy spending my time reading it.
...so maybe i didnt quite word my original post very well... I didnt quite mean fucked him over, more along the lines of She called it off (and ended up hurting him, thus fucking him over), so now she has to live with the consequences. Not saying that Christo should go out and totally rub it in her face, and try macking on anything with tits and a pulse, but come on... She called it off, she doesnt have the right to complain about what Christo may or may not do, and Lauren needs to understand that as well.
As a girl...
I'm inclined to mention the points I agree on.
Now maybe it's because this is a comic and not IRL, but you can't tell me you don't see the interest in Rick's eyes the moment he catches sight of Lauren. He was so going to hit on her. So was.
Perhaps Christo was a little overboard trying to intervene. Maybe Lauren could have handled it well. But a lot of you are assuming he did it for her sake. I'd be more to say that he did it for Sam's sake. As in: "get your ass away from my bro's GF!" As in looking out for Sam, not Lauren. That barb about conversation with the girls was most likely a jibe about how naive Lauren was. And in this case, I'd rather agree. Hell, I can't tell you how many guys I learned were into me when I thought were just being friendly.
As for the Michelle thing... it doesn't seem very fair, no. Personally, I think if someone gets dumped, they shouldn't have to care about the dumper so much. Just my thoughts.
