Final update of the dailies! Phew, it was a slough doing a full page every day, but invigorating and fun. Once again, many many thanks to everyone for your help recently. I hope you've all enjoyed this special daily update week. Cheers!
Sigh. Why does Christo get the raw end of the deal everytime. Exhibit A:
Michelle, as much as I <3 her, screwed up. She lied to Christo about her job. Christo, if you remember, didn't give a damn about the job or what it entailed. Instead, he was pissed that she lied to him about it.
This Rick character is starting to annoy the shit out of me. He comes in out of nowhere, and when Christo lets him know that Lauren has a boyfriend, he runs off like a little weasel. The next day, Captain Goatee comes back in, and Christo gently reminds him of it again. He runs off like a little weasel.
Christo is a decent guy. He got shitted on in a relationship recently. He's making sure that one of his best friends doesn't have the same thing happen to him. Yes, Lauren is a big girl. But he's looking out for Sam. Lauren, like everyone else, can make mistakes.
@McRib Sauce: Ah... thanks to you, I'm know I'm not alone.
He is getting the raw end of the deal. I dunno what everyone is so pissy over him for. It seems fair to me. Just because nothing is going on between them, doesn't mean Rick doesn't want it. And you know what? I'd be suspicious too.
@McRib Sauce: Yeah, looking out for Sam my right foot. He's controlling Lauren for whatever mental hang-up he has (all controlling people have some sort of crap going on up there), whilst telling himself that he's looking out for Sam.
Not only Lauren is a big girl, Lauren is an adult human being who can do with her own life whatever she goddamn wants. And if that involves cheating on Sam, then Christo must accept it and go on with his life. If that's the scenario that plays out later, Lauren will deal with the consequences herself. Like any other adult human being.
Enough with the apologies for shitty behaviour already. It's getting really annoying.
@McRib Sauce: Sure, Christo didn't give a damn about her job, but he sure as hell clammed up after that, what with not telling her about his family and adding to the distance between them. Repaying secrecy with secrecy is not a smart move.
As for Rick, dude was just getting some conversation going with a girl he knew from a class before we even saw him the first time, so he didn't just "come out of nowhere" from her perspective.
Christo is definitely not "gently reminding" him of anything. He's being in-your-face and patronizing. I mean shit, he may just as well pull out his dick and piss around Lauren to get the point across. If I were him, I wouldn't want to hang around long, either, if it meant being looked at like a freakin' predator. Hell, Lauren's bf trusts her, and in the end, that's what matters. She ain't living a double life or working a secret job here, she is simply talking to another person who happens to be of the oppostie sex. Honestly, those of you who have a problem with what she's doing must have some serious trust issues.
But hey, maybe I'm setting myself up for a fall here. Maybe Rick is indeed trying to get in Lauren's pants. However, my point is that what we're seeing here is all circumstantial. I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt.
@Anonz: Michelle debacle? You mean Michelle breaking up with him completely out of the blue (from his point of view)? I don't think Christo is in the wrong at all, it's not fair to break up with someone and then expect them to just pine after you.
This guy is a creep, I think Reminding him and Lauren that she has a boyfriend, and sticking up for Sam is what anyone should do in this situation.
eh, they both have valid points.
On one hand, this guy is a creeper and seems to be making a move on her, and Christo wants to prevent Sam from being heartbroken like he was- in his mind he's doing the right thing. On the other hand, he's being an obnoxious douche about it and needs to let them work it out themselves. So it's not like both sides aren't valid, it's just that people aren't looking at it from both perspectives. 'bros vs hoes' if you will. I'll wait to see how it plays out.
@Jeffko: No one ever said he didn't tell her about his mother to get back at her for lying. He said he didn't want to talk about it.
If the only outcome of bringing up something like that is that it'll bring up sad memories and it has nothing to do with your relationship, you shouldn't be expected to discuss it with anyone.
No, no and no! Omgosh, I can't believe some people can't see how obnoxious Christo is being. Rick and Lauren is just trying to discuss a book. Is this a reason to bring out your inner caveman? Or could it be that maybe, just maybe, Lauren can make friends outside of their usual social network? Noooo, that's impossible! Apparently we only fuck with strangers, we don't talk to them! Really people? Lauren seems to be having a nice conversation and Christo comes up and ruins it with his protective implications making the whole situation awkward and strained. If, in the future, it turns out Rick has alternative motives I'm positive Lauren can handle it. But as of right now Christo is just ruining Lauren's chances of making a new friend. Seriously, I would not been as calm as Lauren is about this. I'm kind of pissed off just reading about it!
@Wingtip Jackson: Relationships are about facing the good and the bad together. It was a dick move on Michelle's part to not talk about her job, and I was totally backing up Christo then. However, while he was pissed at the fact that she wouldn't share with him, he also ended up not sharing with her. As you s aid, he didn't want to talk about it. Could be he just didn't want to because it made him sad and he wasn't ready, could be he just didn't feel inclined to do so because of what Michelle had done to him. Point is, he didn't help bridge the distance.
That said, I'm not putting it all on him. Michelle also has her own issues. Deep down, it felt like she thought she didn't deserve a guy like Christo, especially since she used to talk about how other guys she went out with were dicks to her.
Now, as for Rick and Lauren, tell yourselves this: if Lauren ever conjures up the desire to cheat on her bf, guess what? It's gonna happen, no matter what his friends try do about it. I get the whole idea of looking out for your friend, I really do, but Christo's way of going about it is complete overkill and direspectful to Lauren. As for the opinion that Christo is trying to help his friend avoid what he went through, well Michelle didn't cheat on him with some "random" guy. I don't sense any particular distance between them, so I don't see the similarity.
Bottom line, people meet new people all the freakin' time, folks. That's how you make friends, and to assume a guy and a girl can't meet up and become just friends is incredibly immature thinking, IMO. Many of you point to Rick's attitude, in that he leaves right when Christo shows up. Would any of you want to hang around a potential new friend if one of their own friends was constantly shoving their suspicion of you right in your face? Maybe Rick's not the type of guy who feels the need to confront people like that. It's not like he retreats back to the shadows to whip up a fresh batch of roofies, fer gawd sakes.
Aww this is actually a really sweet page. Mel being all confident and christo being kinda sweet. Gibson you are possibly the only person who would initiate a road trip and then concentrate on the folks left behind.
Everyone is right, and everyone is wrong
I can see everyone's side to this, and everyone is offering valid viewpoints. I'll bet Mr. Twist is getting a real kick out of this.
Personally, I think that McRib Sauce and the Mad Mailman have hit it right on the head. Maybe Christo should tell Lauren what he thinks about rick, or at least warn her so she can be on the look out for it, but that doesn't seem to be his deal.
I see a storm on the horizon, and it ain't pretty.
