Lol I love how people are going "good for Michelle" like it was some really difficult moral judgement. She just got really creeped out by the idea of sex with two friends and quite frankly if one of my friends offered that I think I'd freak out a bit as well.
Interesting how Michelle voiced exactly my thoughts. I was happy when Peter hooked up with Kara, but even I figured she was just using him as a toy. Not that he would probably mind, but it would be nice to have known that up front, instead of having her drop him at whatever time seems convenient for her.
@Phil C.: Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Her attitude in yesterday's comic ("Oh, he won't mind.") just smacked of assumption and extrapolation to me. How the hell does she know what he wants if they never even talked about it? Peter's about as principled as they come and I'm not sure the mere chance of a threesome is gonna change that.
Last panel, when Kara says that was a mistake, shows me that the seductress isn't getting her way for once and it's rattled her. Granted, Michelle got confrontational and things escalated, but she had a point about the fact that the relationship sorta became her business when she was invited for sexy time.
I mean, call me old-fashioned, but if my gf ever wanted to add a third player to the mix, I'd want her to run it by me before dropping offers like that.
I understand that Michelle is Peter's friend and all, but I think she flipped out a little much. Instead of letting Kara respond, she keeps escalating and flipping out. If she had taken a breath and let Kara talk I think she might have calmed down and Kara would have retracted the offer and soothed Michelle's comfort with the situation.
People are missing the trigger here. Michelle was cool, at least not UNcool, until Kara started talking about Peter. It wasn't Kara talking about the two of them getting it on, it was when Peter got brought into it that she got set off. Something up there?
Hmmmmm.... She doesn't seem to be upset about the prospect of being with Kara, but is upset at her for suggesting Peter be involved. Or she could be lashing out because she's freaked out, and WANTS to find a reason to be angry at Kara to diffuse the possibility of sex with her.
Threesomes are a strange hand, some people think it's cheating, some don't. My old ex from years and years ago was always on my case about it and I always refused, not because I didn't want to, but because they were all girls he's f*cked before, F*ck buddies, if you will. That made me super uncomfortable.
Anywayyyyy, if Michelle has any feelings for Peter, something like that can be super awkward and uncomfortable--if for some reason Michelle goes against her better judgement in this, I can see it ending badly... OK, my rant is over. :)
I'm gonna bump up TacoTotes and agree that Michelle is freaking out here because she has feelings for Peter. Maybe not full-fledged, fully understood feelings, but inklings nonetheless.
Were he not involved, and were she not concerned that Kara having a one-night stand affair would upset Peter, I don't think this would have progressed the way it had.
That said, I also don't really see Kara in the same light as most people on this. She doesn't seem... all that WRONG to me... I think Kara has a pretty good way of understanding people and I also think she has a very... removed mindset, especially when compared to Michelle or Peter. The only reason I can see Peter being upset about the threesome is if it were to upset Michelle, Christo, or Kara. Likewise, the only thing that looks like it would upset Michelle is the idea of it affecting Peter (or her own embarrassment brought on by unsure feelings).
Kara on the other hand, is like "Hey, Peter, this doesn't upset me and this won't upset Michelle. It doesn't matter what Christo thinks, let's do it."
She's not like "Oh no, what if this hurts Andy's feelings..." or anything of the ilk. It seems to me that she's more focused on the moment and not so worried about the opinions of others.
I know people like that.
Plus, we haven't seen her and Peter discuss EVERYTHING about their relationship, so I would argue that there's room in the unseen margin for her to extrapolate such details about his level of comfort concerning such things.
That's just my two cents, though.
Sorry if it was awkwardly worded!
Going apart from the trend of thought that everyone believes Michelle has feelings for Peter, could it be that they are strictly platonic? (For those who don't know, that means sibling-esque love, not romantic). Maybe the reason she looks out for Peter so much is because she looks out for him like an older sister looks after a naive younger brother as he walks through the seedy part of town, because she knows what lies in those streets. Let's face it, Peter (like myself) has improved when it comes to knowing his way about town, so to speak, but also like me, he definitely still has a ways to go.
