I can see it now...
Peter and Michelle will eventually hook up, which Christo will interpret as some kind of betrayal from both of them and lose his shit, recalling this very moment of friendly "patching up" with Michelle as a waste of his time... "You only pushed me to make nice with her to make it easier for you to make your play" sort of thing.
OK, maybe I'm being overly dramatic here. I'm usually very optimistic about things, I swear!
Perhaps I'm jumping the proverbial gun here, but are people actually stating that in real life, you would keep your mouth shut, thereby allowing two of your best friends to keep driving their lives into the ground just to fulfill a romantic and/or sexual conquest?
Because if I do have that straight, that is lowness of the... er, highest caliber.
Let's say Peter loves Michelle- and it might be jumping the gun to assume that. He is also her friend and cares about her, and Christo is Peter's friend, and Peter cares about him as well. Christo and Michelle are part of the same social group, and their awkwardness is making the whole damn group feel awkward.
So, because Peter doesn't like it when his social group feels awkward, because he wants Christo and Michelle to both be happy, and because of his possible romantic feelings for Michelle, he tells Christo to stop being an asshole. And now he's reflecting on Michelle and his feelings for her and their friendship, and he's a little bit sad, because Michelle feels very far away from the group at this point in time.
Where's the contradiction? Everything in there follows logically. His mind is made up, it makes perfect sense for Peter to be acting and feeling the way that he is.
If Memory Serves
While it wasn't his fault, if I remember right what started Michelle thinking that they should break up to begin with was Peter telling her about Christo's personal family business wasn't it?
Maybe he kind of feels like a jerk for getting in Christo's face about patching up that friendship since Peter seems like the kind of guy that blames himself for things a LOT.
I find it funny that usually I tend to think of the activities portrayed in this comic as unrealistic to how the real world works; but this event definitely is drawing close to something I know for a fact happens, having been in Peter's boots. Honestly, if Christo throws a bitch fit over Peter and Michele, I will laugh at him and then move on because they are like in their low 20's and relationship mixing happens. People swap partners based on grass being greener and whatnot. Hell, he's from Europe- it's more common there than here.
