This hurts. A lot. But that smile adds a bittersweet note. I can at least think that he didn't panic and jump in some crisis state. He thought about it, he accepted it, and he was happy with his choice. I don't think it was a good choice, but at least he didn't seem to be hurting at the end.
TBH part of me is surprised this didn't happen sooner. His friends ignored his problems. He ignored his problems (because his state of mind wasn't clear enough). I don't agree with suicide or see it as a solution, but I know and understand why they go for it. He seemed calm and collected as a decision though. I do agree with euthanasia but that's different context IMHO.
If anything I feel sorry for the driver of that car who had to witness someone killing themselves. Silhouette only but the expression still comes through. He's gonna be shaken up after it.
Damn you Gibson! Damn you and your talent at suspense! Even tough it was pretty clear what was going to happen, I kept hoping until the. very. last. panel. I even scrolled this page very slowly to take in every panel.
Thank you for the third one, where Willy seems so at peace, finally free. It does help a bit. Why do we get so attached to comic characters?
Also... How do you die when you jump off a bridge? Instanly from impact? Does impacting with the water makes you unconscious and then you drown? Or do you *shudders* just hurt yourself very bad and THEN drown? God, that last possibility is just too horrible to fathom.
@Fyb Unfortunately it does tend to be the last option. It's why, if found in time, a lot of bridge jumpers tend to survive however. Though in a lot of cases, they also pass out because of shock from those injuries.
