Kara's smile just completes this page

Shikamaru_Nara, 17 Dec 2009 11:33 pm

Michelle kept her cool through all that, too. She must really care if she didn't even blow her top during the rant.

Anotheryaoifreak, 17 Dec 2009 11:42 pm

Melanie: Pwned. 8}

Evergrey06, 18 Dec 2009 12:28 am

Am I alone in thinking that Wiley's comment after makes Michelle's rant all the more hard-hitting?

cals (Guest), 18 Dec 2009 01:42 am

miraidebbie, 18 Dec 2009 11:51 am

Preach on.
This page was so perfect. From Michelle to Wiley to Kara, perfect.

OH SNAP! Go Michelle go, that was fantastic!

iAshley, 18 Dec 2009 03:21 pm

Thank God, maybe now she'll grow some proverbial balls and get it together.

AsteriskMan (Guest), 18 Dec 2009 03:21 pm

Michelle listens to Ani Difranco.

youngcannibals, 18 Dec 2009 07:41 pm

I wouldn't mind seeing a leash on Melanie.

RocketFetus (Guest), 19 Dec 2009 10:32 am

Guess she needed someone other than Patrick to say it for it to sink in.
Or maybe it's because she's the one being criticized and not her boyfriend.

jd_singer, 19 Dec 2009 04:31 pm

Wow, Michelle is working hard on that comeback to regain the "Greatest Pictures of You character" award Kara snatched from her in The Better Man page 5! Still, Kara's smile in the last panel lets her keep a slight advantage. (Even taking into account the fact that Michelle remained uncharacteristically calm.

(But then, that's the hallmark of a really good story: when a character acts out of character and it still works.)

And I never thought seeing Melanie look this dumb would make me this happy. By the way, I quite agree with Evergrey06 that Wiley just hammers it in with outstanding power. Without meaning it of course, which doesn't help.

(Anotheryaoifreak, I sympathize with your mom and hope she's finally learned.)

Beautiful page, even better than always.

on another note
I had to admit I was missing the exact words of our jd_singer.

Not out of character
I do not see this as Melanie acting out of character at all. How many times have we seen her getting a speed lecture from Michelle? People react differently to different people and different situations. Clearly.

It isn't like Michelle was aiming for a discussion or trying to reason with Melanie like her brother or co-worker does. I have given these mini-lectures to people, trust me there is no room for argument before you make your exit.

jd_singer, 20 Dec 2009 04:52 pm

Sev: I'm afraid there's a misunderstanding here, I wasn't referring to Melanie acting out of character but to Michelle. Whose long-winded, balanced, articulate speech was very different from the way she argues with Christo (ow) or shuts Wiley up.

(I must admit that I was a bit surprised to see Melanie bring up the subject of a party knowing fully well where it might lead her, but on second thoughts it sounds natural, given that she has been described as a fun-loving party enthusiast - winged by Devon these days, but not enough yet for her to hide in her shell.)

Still, I do not look forward to the results - if she actually goes to the party, Devon will strike back and the result won't be pleasant. It might be necessary - but how I wish she would simply break up with him as she eventually will ... (Or die trying to please him, but here's hoping she won't.)

I wonder how long she stood there before she could speak?
Or better yet, before she could rationalize a reply to that question, even to herself.
