This page was so uplifting to write.

Today's incentive...as well as tomorrow's and Sunday's...is a live action casting call for Pictures of You. It's pointless, but it's fun, and hopefully will spark some debate. But it's a three-parter! Vote today to see the first batch, One-Inch Punch! Then come back to vote on Saturday for Part Two and AGAIN on Sunday for Part Three. I had fun putting these together, now I command you all to have fun looking at them. Happy voting!

Remember! Saturday and Sunday each have new incentives!

I love it!
The casting, I mean. Especially Justin Long as Smiling Andy. (The page is nice too, as always.)

Shikamaru_Nara, August 6th, 2010, 1:13 am

Damn it.
I was considering trying to put together a group to act out the first book or two of Pictures of You once I was at the Acting Conservatory in a few weeks...now it wouldn't seem so out of the blue ;_;

Gibson Twist, August 6th, 2010, 1:48 am

Hmm...now you have me tempted to write a version for the stage...hmm, I say, hmm...

yayness (Guest), August 6th, 2010, 2:20 am

Incentive was AWESOME. Justin Long works so well as Andy, I think just because he was wearing the right colour shirt as well...I imagined Patrick more covered-by-hair and sulky in my head, but that might have been just the pose.

Guy-playing-Wiley made me laugh. :D

*hopes for Alexander*

DavynD, August 6th, 2010, 2:35 am

Justin Long as Andy? HELL TO THE YES.

Anotheryaoifreak, August 6th, 2010, 3:35 am

In an odd way I am completely turned on by this Peter.....

dangerface, August 6th, 2010, 5:48 am

Joseph Gordon Levitt would make a great Patrick!

Guest, August 6th, 2010, 7:32 am

Yes Justin!

darkamnios, August 6th, 2010, 8:52 am

the incentive made my morning lol
Patrick was just too funny.

And, awww peter... -sigh-

Today's Comic
"So who was I?" Probably just a normal human male whose testosterone, fueled by stress, and way too much booze got out of control, bringing out the true primal nature of the human male. Now he is suffering remorse because he has been taught that he should never allow himself to get out of control. Which, at times with very male men, is impossible.

It will be interesting to see how the author resolves this.

youngcannibals, August 6th, 2010, 10:28 am

"So who was I?" Harvey Pekar, of course.

tezzle, August 6th, 2010, 10:57 am

If you didn't cast him due to him being a minor character, allow me to suggest Philip Seymour Hoffman for Prof. Lipton.

EDIT: AWWW! Patton Oswalt! Of COURSE! It's so obvious now!

Shikamaru_Nara, August 6th, 2010, 2:19 pm

Yeah, the problems I saw with a stage version was that it would have to be done in several installments in order to actually encompass the story. Whether it's one per book or one per year. I was thinking of trying a web series, but by the time we were out of college and not seeing each other regularly again, PoY still wouldn't be finished so we wouldn't be able to do the whole story...but yeah, I think this could work very well in another form, the story is definitely there.

Gibson Twist, August 6th, 2010, 3:52 pm

It's true. The thing I've always said is that PoY could never be a movie, it would have to be a television series. Of course, on that level it breaks down near perfectly into a 5-year run. I would also like a pony.

SLDawn (Guest), August 6th, 2010, 4:06 pm

Ok, so the incentive for today was absolutely perfect. Beyond the fact that i've contemplated it myself and wondered who would play who, but also because you got every character ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON. (As you should, you ARE the author after all...) But anyways, thankyou so much for posting that, made my day!

Gibson Twist, August 6th, 2010, 4:44 pm

Thanks! The choices for the women, (which you can be see by voting tomorrow, hint hint) were a lot more difficult. The range of decent women's roles makes it difficult to find a lot of actresses that aren't just window dressing, and then to limit it by age makes it moreso. I know exactly who would have played Kara ten years ago, but today?

vitaldose, August 6th, 2010, 10:33 pm

Oh Peter, you've got yourself some issues.

I still want to hug him though.

And I could write this cast with my eyes closed, but let's not do this hrm?

Shikamaru_Nara, August 7th, 2010, 2:08 am

It's true.
It is really much easier to play with a man's age than a woman's...Also, though I find Philip Seymour Hoffman to be an astounding actor, part of me would really like to see Sean Connery as Lipton. I'm not even entirely sure why, it just seems entertaining in my head.

Pictures of You could definitely have that impact...the question is, what sort of series? It really depends on which side of the story you want to emphasize more...I could see it done in early 90's sitcom fashion, primarily a comedy but with the ability to bring up and nail serious issues (Boy Meets World or Fresh Prince), and I really think it'd be cool to see another sitcom in that style pop up as opposed to what we have today. It'd kind of harken back to the time PoY is set in, as well. Could just be my fanboyish, wishful thinking, though.

There's always the more professional, dramatic route too, of course, I don't even really need to describe it. Modern television, really.

Bonez (Guest), August 7th, 2010, 3:03 am

Ok so I looked around for the incentives but I can't find them anywhere. Not really even sure what I'm looking for honestly. Could someone point me in the right direction?

I personally think Amy Smart would be perfect to play Melanie. Her performance as Keyleigh in The Butterfly Effect was spot on with the kind of character you would need for Melanie's persona.

Gibson Twist, August 7th, 2010, 4:20 am

I'm not sure why so many people have trouble finding the voting link, it's right above the comments and it's kind of gigantic. The only thing I can guess is that ad blockers might be blocking it.

Anyone who can't find the link can go directly to topwebcomics.com and scroll down until you find us. You won't have to scroll far.

darkamnios, August 7th, 2010, 8:19 am

Im curious now, who would have played Kara ten years ago?

gun21, August 7th, 2010, 5:42 pm

Daniel Day Lewis as Lipton, with an alternative ending where he beats Peters skull in with a bowling pin shouting "I AM THE THIRD REVELATION! I AM WHO THE LORD HAS CHOSEN"

Redcrow (Guest), August 7th, 2010, 5:48 pm

Saturdays Gallery
I missed Friday's (oh, shoot!), but as for Saturdays line-up:

darkamnios, August 8th, 2010, 12:56 am

i know, 3 comments in the same page but LMAO at Prof. Lipton.
Bravo Mr. Twist!

SuperBiasedMan, August 8th, 2010, 6:00 am

The Sunday cast is glorious enough that a short play of those minor characters must be made. (specifically I mean Devon, Nelson, Alexander and, of course, Professor Lipton)

Kotire, August 8th, 2010, 9:44 am

Hi once again everyone
Welcome to the Voter's update. In voting news today over at webcomicz.com we see no change in the ranking for Pictures of You as it lays claim to that #2 spot for another week.
Over at TWC however, there has been much activity. Over the last 3 days, PoY has been all over the place. At it's lowest point this weekend, Pictures of You was at #21. The high point for PoY was yesterday, where it reached #12, Oh so very close to the top 10. Today, Pictures of you has settled on the #15 spot, but is gaining on #14.

Patton Oswalt. PERFECT. Not only does he look like the good Professor, but I have seen clips of him drunk. He was born for this role.

Well kids, that's it for me for today so,until next time, Keep on Voting.

The cigarette
forgive me if I seem a little banal, but after having taken classes in college and studying graphic novels and considering things such as this, I'm wondering why the cigarette is getting so much attention in this page.

I notice that it is always pointed downwards. The two panels where it is most prominent he makes the statements "But I didn't care." and "I didn't want to" This seems to suggest that on some level we are commenting on Peter's new vice as nobody "wants to" get hooked, and most of the time when people start smoking they "don't care" about the long term risk.

We are really examining Peter's path in this story, as he is the main character. So, naturally I am drawn to consider how every aspect of himself is affecting the situation at hand, and likewise the reverse.

Hmm... Ponder....

Gibson Twist, August 8th, 2010, 12:22 pm

I wouldn't read too much into that symbolism.

Amonyoshu, August 8th, 2010, 12:52 pm

Sunday's Incentive
I have to wonder, did you choose Daniel Radcliffe just because you love to hate him? Perhaps Danny Masterson's work in That 70's Show was awful, but do you really want to beat him without mercy over it?

dangerface, August 8th, 2010, 10:41 pm

Congratulations on your TWO wins, Mr. Twist! Way to go!
